LA to NY: here is what I learned in my mid 20s

January, 2015 I drove across the Country from Burlington, Vermont to Los Angeles, California. I was looking for a change. So I quite my 8-5 job and packed up my car and drove away. As you can imagine, my parents was not thrilled by this decision but I had to do what was best for me. I often referred this period of my life as my mid 20 crisis.  A year later, I accepted a position near my hometown in New York. My parents couldn’t be any happier and I was okay with moving back. I have to join the adult world at some point right?!

Here is what I have learned in my mid 20s:

  1. When you find that somebody, dont lose yourself because of them.
  2. Never put your heart, future, or happiness in somebody else’s hand.
  3. The company does not love you. You are replaceable.
  4. Time does heal everything. It may take awhile but it will happen. You will be stronger because of it. “what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger”.
  5. You have very few real friends. Real friends are there for you during the bad time and as well as the good. You will even survive long distance friendship.
  6. People you know and care about are getting older. People you love are going to die. There is no remedy for this one. All you can do is cherish the time you hae with people you love.
  7. Hangovers start getting alittle bit worse…
  8. The truth is, no one have an idea of what they are doing with their life or how to be adult.
  9. Expand your interest and try new things. You wont regret for trying at least once.
  10. You will have friends who are getting marry or even have kids, if you are not there yet, thats okay. There is nothing wrong with trying to find a decent match on Tinder who doesnt seem like a total freak.
  11. You are going to feel alone sometimes. Thats okay. In the end, you can only really count on yourself, and you will become stronger from the moments you felt abandoned.
  12. Job market isnt what it used to be. Your college degree or experience isnt an easy ticket to success anymore. Hard work and dedication is nessasary.
  13. Not everything will be like how you imagine it.
  14. Nothing is important than your parents. They can be frustrating sometimes or alot of times but they understand you must more than you could possibly imagine. All they want us to see you happy, healthy, and successful.
  15. Travel often. It helps you grown and expand your knowledge.
  16. Learn to to doing things quickly. Instad, trade for clam, confidence, and precision.
  17. Making friends is suddently awkward and hard. With your friends being hundreds miles away, you actually have to go out of your way to socialize and make friends where you are living.
  18. your body is no longer the same. Working out becomes an nescessity to most of us.
